Why do you need to Clean your Window Air Conditioner?
There are many reasons why you need to make sure your window air conditioner is clean, but the most important reason is because of your health.
If a window air conditioner hasn’t been cleaned in quite some time, then it can allow bad bacteria and moulds to grow in the air conditioner.
If this happens, then it’s likely that they will be circulated around your room, and this is something you won’t want to breathe in because it can actually be quite dangerous for you and other people who may be in your house too.
Not only this but if you don’t clean your window air conditioner, then it can also cause it to have problems over a long period of time.
This is because it will struggle to work as well as it did originally.
Plus, if you want to exhaust the air that is in your room to outside, then it may struggle to do this because of the build-up of dirt that is in its way.
Therefore it will put more pressure on the window air conditioner unit, and it could mean that it won’t work properly, or it could cause you other problems.
How to Clean a Window Air Conditioner.
There are actually several different ways that you can clean your window air conditioner, and we’re going to go through all of them for you.
With some window air conditioners, it may actually be best to clean them daily, and this will be able to prevent any build-up from happening at all.
If you think you need to do this, then you should be able to smell a little bit of mildew from the window air conditioner, and this will actually indicate this.
So to clean it you will need to fill a spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide, then you can turn your window air conditioner off and spray the fan area with the hydrogen peroxide.
Once you have done this it’s important that you leave it to dry, it’s best to do this overnight. If you notice that it still smells, then it’s likely it will need a deeper clean.
This cleaning is a little more in-depth, but it’s just as simple as the daily cleaning. First of all, you will need to remove the panel from the window air conditioner so you can get access to the filter.
Once you have detached the filter, you will then need to run it under cold water in your nearest sink, when you’re doing this it’s important that you make sure that there’s no dirt left on the filter.
You will then need to leave it to dry naturally on its own, and you can then place it back into the window air conditioner.
This type of cleaning will be needed if your window air conditioner is in a really big need of a deep clean.
To do this you will need to take the casing off the window air conditioner unit, but make sure it’s turned off before you try and do this.
Then you will need a fine comb to be able to comb through the aluminium fins, and this will be able to remove any dust. Once you have done this, it’s important that you use condensed air to blow the coils, as this will get rid of any more dust.
Then you will need to use your vacuum to wipe down the tray and then it’s important that you leave it to dry before you use it again.
This is very useful if you desperately need to give your window air conditioner a very deep clean. First of all, you will need to take the case off of the window air conditioner.
You will need either a conditioner coil cleaner or some type of oxygenated cleaner to then spray over the casing and the interior of the AC unit.
It’s important that you leave the parts to soak for around 10 minutes. Then once you have done this, you will need to scrub the unit with a bristle brush and get a hose to wash the unit down with water, but it’s important that you don’t get the panel wet when you do this.
You will then need to leave your window air conditioner to dry, and the best way to do this is by leaving it to dry naturally.
You can do this by leaving it outside in the sun if it’s a warm day, or you can simply leave it in your house with a towel underneath it to soak up all of the water.
